Toshiba T4700 C / CS Repair Notes
Created 12/1998
The hard drive is located in the center of the unit in a removable case 3/4" high. Easy HDD upgrade.
Lots of dead batteries in these units.
Lots of floppy failures, and this is an extremely involved replacement procedure, requiring almost total disassembly of the unit.
Almost every CS (dual scan) model I’ve seen has a defective LCD panel - either dead or with a vertical line (almost always red) in the top or bottom half of the display. The C (Active) models don’t seem to have this problem.
If the unit is passworded, and the password is lost, it has to be sent to Toshiba for replacement of a chip on the I/O board.
These have a switch on the hinge that senses when the screen is open. Be careful to disconnect it when disassembling the unit.
